Choosing a lens for the SmartDive ROV camera
For our ROV we needed to find a lens that would provide the widest possible viewing angle with the least amount of distortion. We tried different options:
The first photo was taken with a lens that gives a wide angle (106 degrees), but also a lot of distortion. Focal length is 2.5 mm.
Then we chose a lens with a narrow field of view (89 degrees), but with a little distortion. Focal length is 2.8 mm. We didn't stop there.
And finally, we found lenses that provide both a wide angle (105 degrees) and almost no distortion of the picture. Focal length is 2.2 mm.
We use these lenses on the SmartDive ROV.
